  • Hi There

    Hello all,

After a 6-7 year hiatus, I'm looking forward to getting back into detailing. As before, it will be a side job. I'm looking forward to becoming more familiar with the current products although I still have a lot of older supplies to use up first before I'll be buying more. It sounds like #80 has been discontinued, which is kind of a pity. I liked how long it worked in the Florida heat. I just bought some of the new low profile DA discs and am looking forward to trying them out once I get them! The old pads I had were the original Soft Buff, but they disintegrated after being stored for so many years.

To ease back into it, I did a quick exterior detail on my truck yesterday: Deep Crystal wash, clayed, APC+ on wheels and tires (they were pretty bad), then a few different paint treatments. The hood was a little hazy after not having been waxed for a long time (I bought it from my Dad a while back), so I did 4 different sections: Color-X on one, #7 and NXT on the second, #7 and #26 on the third, and #7 and #16 on the fourth. The remainder of the truck was waxed with NXT on one side and #26 on the other as I want to do a durability test between the two. I did Hot Shine on the tires, and #105 followed by PlastX on the faded headlights. Ultimate Black on all the black trim. I don't have any pictures but am loving how it looks now. It needs to be buffed out fully but that will have to wait. Working on it reminded me how much I love detailing!!! I'm looking forward to getting back into it, and hopefully will be posting some before/afters in the next few months.

On a side note, props to Danny in the customer care center. I spoke with him a few times yesterday to get information about the new pad system. He was very helpful and friendly despite my multitudinous questions. He's definitely a good representative for Meguiar's!

    See you around the forums!

                  Re: Hi There

Hi Mr. Stoops, great to see you as well!! I just thought of you yesterday. I was using my trusty G100 that I got years ago in the giveaways to buff a black 2009 Harley Davidson Tri Glide Trike. Used #105 with a dab of #7 to give me a little longer buff time (using the MF cutting pad - yeah, it's an aggressive combination but I tried #205 with yellow foam, #105 with yellow foam and neither gave me quite the defect removal I was aiming for), then finished up with #205 on the yellow foam pad. For some reason I remembered you asking how I was coming along with it. I'm loving it still! I know there are fancier polishers out there, but the G100 does the job!

                  Anyways, thanks for the welcome!

Nice to see you thinking outside the box for those times when the system approach doesn't quite cut it (see what I did there?!). If you haven't done so already, you might want to give M205 on microfiber a go sometime - on harder paints with minor defects that combo can do stellar work in a single step. Oh, and please call me Mike....I'm old enough as it is without you "kids" making me feel any older!!!

I got a chuckle out of that Mike. Yeah you should watch a video of this guy in action sometime, old as the hills.

Haha, clever! That's good to know, thanks!! I'll have to give it a try next time I'm playing around with the buffer. Kid? Lol.

Haha! Yeah, positively ancient! I watched the video of the training he and Jason Rose did on the DAMF system at Autogeek. I think he had Jason do all the machine work because Mike couldn't manage the DA.

                        Completely kidding, Mike...
