When i was buying a new bottle of DC step 1, someone told me that it scratches the clear coat. the site says that it is non abrasive, and wont hurt the clear coat at all. is this true?

It's a very gentle paint cleaner, used correctly it's going to be part of a system that makes your paint look good.

Re: Deep Crystal Step 1?
You have to remember air blowing past your car will remove some paint molecules. And there are cars, wagons, etc that are 100yrs or older and still have their paint on, so it is all relative.
Used properly, that is applied with a gentle applicator, DC#1 would be safe to use every month for 15 years or more. And you probably wont detail that often every year on the same car.
But, like anything else, you dont have to use it if you dont want to.2017 Subaru WRX Premium - WR Blue

I think if you actually use DC#1 you will find it very gentle and like Murr mentioned it can be used time and time again! I use to have an S10 Xtreme and DC#1 was my main method of cleaning paint and couldn't be happier with the product.Brandon

When we talk about removing clear coat, like during the polishing process to remove swirl marks, we're talking about an almost imperceptible amount being removed. Seriously, don't stress over it.Michael Stoops

Re: Deep Crystal Step 1?
Here is a good post to read and should ease your mind on removing too much CC: How much paint are you removing.
In the thread (post #3) you can see the most aggressive method by PC (#83 DACP) and claying showed no change in the Clear Coat thickness and this is more 'agressive' than applying DC#1 or anyother Meguiars consumer line product. The more aggressive techniques like wet sanding and rotary polishing showed changes.Brandon
